Recycled Cashmere is an excellent eco substitute to conventional cashmere. Sadly cashmere goats have caused massive desertification in their native Mongolia. The popularity of cashmere has caused over grazing, which is made worse because when they eat, they pull the grass up by the root, so the grass does not have enough time to regenerate. Baby Alpaca, Organic wool and Recycled (aka Regenerated) Cashmere make great alternatives.
